Volume 2

Volume 2 Press Release:

Welcome to the Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown!! On February 17th 2013, thirty plus musicians from eighteen touring bands gathered in a massive mountain cabin in Asheville, North Carolina to begin the work on the next installment from the Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown, “Volume 2″. Present, were members of Fishbone, P-Funk, the Time, Mudvayne/Korn, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, The Sexual Chocolate Band, The Fritz, SciFi, The Soular System, Delta Nove, Konglom and several other amazing players that will be announced down the road. At this gathering of the minds, the players wrote and recorded eleven songs in roughly forty-eight hours. The vibe was amazing and the music just flowed. The first two days were spent primarily at the cabin and then moved to Solomon Mines Studio in Fletcher, NC where the party continued. They recorded around the clock for the next two days. One group of players tracked live in the studio while another group wrote new materiel next door at the rehearsal spot attached to the studio. “All of the tracks recorded have different combinations of the players that were there. It makes for a really unique sound and fuses all the different influences and backgrounds together” says Getdown’s founder and bassist John Heintz. The first record proved this unique approach to being a winning formula as “Volume 1″ received global acclaim. “Volume 1″ was recorded in 2007/2008 and features George Clinton, and members of P-Funk, Galactic, Derek Trucks Band, Dumpstaphunk, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Warren Haynes Band, the Lee Boys, Blackalicious and many of the aforementioned players for “Volume 2″. “Volume 1″ started in New Orleans when 35 musicians from 17 bands stayed in a 13 bedroom mansion on Royal St. for a week and then was finished at George Clinton’s studio in FL over the next couple of years. “Volume 1″ was Nominated for 2012 Record of the Year by the Los Angeles Music Awards, Won 2011 Funk/Groove Song of the Year at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and was also nominated for 2012 Country Song of the Year by the aforementioned HMMAs.
A second session for “Volume 2″ is set for early May at a famous home in the Hollywood Hills and will bring in a new group of players and mix them with several folks from the first session. Heintz’s production partner Frank Mapstone says “As of now things are moving at a great momentum and we are thrilled with the material from Asheville. This follow up session will really just take things over the top and give us more than enough material to finish ‘Volume 2′ and maybe some for ‘Volume 3″. In the up coming weeks Heintz will release the line-up for the Hollywood session as well as some dates for the live show that is just as much of a musical spectacle as the recording sessions are. The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown takes a rotating line-up of roughly twenty players out for the live shows and has over 160 active musicians that are part of the organization
